This project was developed for Greg Davis, founder of Metro Boston Alive, a nonprofit substance-use resource center in Roxbury, Boston — a neighborhood with a deep history of jazz, activism, and African American cultural life. Through his own experiences and his long-standing commitment to the community, Greg has sought to create a place for people who feel they have nowhere else to go.
Over the course of several months, we worked with Greg to study the feasibility of this vision. We analyzed the spatial organization of the existing three-story institution, documented the adjacent property, and developed a proposal rooted in the logic of Boston’s standard wood-frame construction. The goal was to produce material that Greg could use to communicate an actionable vision for expanding infrastructures of care in Roxbury.
